We were in our RV’s, at a campground in the middle of New Jersey, when we experienced the earthquake of August 23rd. Our stay in Philadelphia was cut short due to the arrival of Hurricane Irene on the 27th. We did manage to make a peace pole for the lovely, old, Quaker Church in Downington, PA with the words Peace, Simplicity, Tolerance, and Integrity. Another pole was planted in a peace garden at the North Light Community Center for children in Philadelphia, with the words Peace, Service, Action, and Commitment. We packed up and drove to a safe shelter to weather the storm in Elkton, Maryland.

We arrived on time in Baltimore on August 31, where we showed the Grandmother’s film at Sid McNairy’s Lifeline Yoga Studio. On Sept. 2, we had a walk-a-mile-for-peace through an inner city neighborhood in Southwest Baltimore. Several community members joined us as we planted a peace pole at the Westport Community Center, with the words Peace, Family, Understanding, and Responsibility. We did a water healing ceremony on the Patapsaco River that day, too.
Sept 3, we all participated in an Interfaith Dialogue at One God, One Thought Church in Northwest Baltimore. After a great day of sharing peace stories, we planted a peace pole there with the words, Peace, Love, Life, and Prosperity.

On the road by 8am Sunday morning, Sept.4, to go to Washington DC. The 13 Moon Walk 4 Peace team was asked to lead the Sri Baba Walk for Values around the Washington Monument and the Capitol vicinity. Between 700 to 1000 beautiful people walked in a well-organized line, demonstrating the spiritual principles of peace, love, right-conduct, truth, and non-violence. It felt like a powerful healing energy. The walk ended at the outdoor Sylvan Theatre, where Audri gave an inspiring 15 minute speech, which concluded with her joining with Baba Rasd to sing “Pass the Peace”. The joyful frequency continued to rise as Audri was presented an award from the Sri Baba Foundation. A beautiful, memorable day! On Friday, Sept.9, we presented a peace pole to Ballou High School, where we attended a “Harambe”class (meaning going into the darkness to bring out the light) with Baba Rasd’s students. The words on the pole were Peace, Love, Excellence, and Harambe. Our stay in DC concluded with a great workshop by Mikuak Rai on Navigating Earth Changes, as he shared his knowledge of the Mayan Calender.

It was a walk centered in truth, right conduct, peace, love and nonviolence as the human values that shape the way we think, feel, and behave. When these values are not expressed, the result is anger, distrust, fear, suffering, disrespect, crime, corporate greed, environmental degradation, and violence. When they are expressed, the result is kindness, compassion, honesty, empathy, tolerance, generosity, forgiveness and a sense of security. These human values are universal and transcend the barriers of race, religion, culture, and ethnicity. They are the pillars of every society. Audri was the guest speaker.

Wow —what a journey!!

June 26 – We arrived at Unity Church of Cleveland to plant a peace pole in the front yard of the church with the words Peace, Love, Joy, and Spirit. We gathered with the congregation and sang, “Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me”. The Sunday school teacher held up my book, “The Heart of the Matter” during the church service and read excerpts from it. He said they would use my book to teach the class. Interestingly, I sold 13 copies while there in Cleveland.

July 10 – Another peace pole planting at the Unity of Cincinnati with the words Peace, Love, Serve, and Transform. Our arrival at the church on this day was an interesting synchronicity in that it was also the Sunday that the community voted 79-80 to remove the church’s minister. We were present for the congregation’s healing circle, and prayed for peace and reconciliation amongst the divided congregation.

In between Cincinnati and Pittsburgh, we stayed with some great folks from the organization, “Footprints for Peace”. We were guided to visit an ancient sacred site in Locust Grove, OH, called Serpent Mound. It is considered to be one of the finest effigy mounds in North America and the largest in the world, it felt like another significant power point along the journey.

July 23 – We arrive in Pittsburgh, aka Peaceburgh, to attend a group PGH – Peaceful Gathering Hands with our dynamic host and flowetry artist, Phil Osophical.
July 24 – We planted a peace pole at the Unity Church of Pittsburgh with the words, Peace, Love, Understanding, and Joy. Audri gave the Sunday sermon called; “Ascension Tension” and the rest of the team gave an afternoon workshop called, “The Peaceful Convergence”. That evening, we had an auspicious water healing ceremony at the convergence of the four rivers known as The Point. We are joined by several others in the community in our healing circle, including a blue vase of sacred waters from around the world and a crystal skull that was recently gifted to Pittsburgh by Indigenous Grandmother Flordemayo.
July 25 – The morning began with a radio interview followed by our Walk-a Mile for Peace down Penn St. to The Cathedral of Hope. We toured the enormous and elaborate Cathedral and walked a labyrinth inside. That evening, we walked another labyrinth in another church, that was made of corn kernels under the instruction of a Mayan elder. It was also the Mayan day out of time. As we walked the “Skywalker” labyrinth with candles, bells, and tuning forks, he told us our assignment was to be joyful, so we raised the frequency with dancing, laughter, and great fun!
July 26 – New Year’s Day of the Mayan 13 moon calendar was another auspicious day. We were guided to Farmington, PA. to visit the sacred site of the white buffalo, Thunder, and his sister, the black buffalo, Lightening, symbols of the sacred masculine and feminine, as well as Native American prophecy.

white buffalo

August 1- The 13 moon Walk 4 Peace team walked into Williamsport, PA….a welcomed homecoming for David and Mary.
Aug. 3 – The day began with a radio interview with Ken Sawyer in the morning. Later the team planted a peace pole at the Campbell St. Center with the words, Peace, Love, Joy, and Wisdom. The team received an award from Mayor Campana and one from State Representative Rick Mirabito designating the first week of August as “Walk for Peace” week in Pennsylvania. At 2:00pm, an interfaith panel discussion about peace was held at The Center with local religious leaders and Audri and Mary on the panel. That evening at 7:30 was the screening of the film, “For the Next 7 Generations” at The Community Arts Center. Dorothy Ninham was introduced to discuss the “Free Leonard Peltier Movement” and the display of his artwork at the local Ankleroot Gallery.
Aug. 5 – Was “First Friday” in downtown Williamsport. There were festivities with arts and crafts to raise money for the peace walk.
Aug. 6 – The walk a mile for peace activity was rained out, but a blessed prayer circle commenced with those that showed up anyway.

Aug. 7 - The team spoke at the Sunday service at the Quaker Meeting House in Millville, and planted a peace pole at the Friend’s School with the words, Peace, Paz, Salam, and Shalom.

*It was a real treat to be joined by Elizabeth and Jude Sterling while in Williamsport. We also must thank our host Karen & Jack Humphrey for service beyond the beyond and the entire Williamsport community for their incredible support in Williamsport and throughout the walk!!

Aug. 12 – Arrived at the City Hall in Newark, NJ, as guest of our amazing host, City Council Member, Mildred Crump, for a luncheon and to be introduced to several community leaders. We stayed at the Rutger’s University dorms.
Aug. 13. – We planted two peace poles, in downtown Newark, that the Trail of Dreams World Peace Walkers were not able to plant on their return from the world walk in 2009 because the ground was frozen. We also attended the Tibetan Peace exhibit at the Newark museum. We participated in a dialogue for Peace in the City Council Conference Chambers from 3:00 – 5:00, with several local peace action groups. Karen and Mary spoke to represent the team.
Aug. 14 – We celebrated Global Peace Day with City Council Member, Mildred Crump, at the community at Bethany Baptist Church in Newark.

*A special thank you to Walter Bryant, Chief of Staff, for his efficiency and support during our time in Newark.

Aug. 15 – Arrived in Jersey City, NJ., the closest RV park outside of New York City.
Aug. 16 – The team met with Carole Hart, producer of the film, “For the Next 7 Generations” in the upper west side of Manhattan.
Aug. 17 – We began our peace walk in Harlem, NY, Marcus Garvey Day, by having the elders bless the peace pole. We attended a Marcus Garvey Day tribute with local elders at the Harriet Tubman School. Queen Mother, Dr. Delois Blakely, Honorary Mayor of Harlem was our host and escort through the streets of historic Harlem. She chose the words peace, life, sacredness, and reflection.

David carried the peace pole for over 20 blocks through the heart of Harlem, from 125th St. to the planned destination at City College of New York, where the peace pole will be permanently installed on the International Day of Peace, and then on to her headquarters at 142nd Street.

We noticed our reflections in this large blue vase at the healing water ceremony in pittsburgh after we spent more than 30 minutes or more putting our love and intentions into the healing water. Before we started the ceremony we were told of a prophecy regarding water and fire and that there would come a time when water and fire would coexist. And at our ceremony we had the Sacred Fire of Thunder that was given to the walk by the Six Nations along with water from rivers around the world. After the love, healing and intentions were put into the sacred water, we each poured some of it into the waters of the convergence, where 4 rivers converge in Pittsburgh.

A Call to Action: Leonard Peltier

On June 27, 2011, the 66-year-old Leonard Peltier was thrown… Read the rest

For specific actions you can take to support the free Leonard Peltier campaign please visit the official Leonard Defense Offense Committee site.

A Call to Action: Leonard Peltier

On June 27, 2011, the 66-year-old Leonard Peltier was thrown in “The Hole” at USP-Lewisburg where he purportedly will stay for the next six months. According to what is currently known, Leonard’s cell was searched that day. A guard allegedly was shocked by a wire(s) in the cell, placed there a long while ago by one of Leonard’s former cellmates. The guard claimed “assault” (apparently he didn’t know better than to touch an electrical wire). Leonard wasn’t present during the search, having already been removed to “The Hole”.

Visit the website, http://www.whoisleonardpeltier.info, to read the official Incident Report.
** Please note that the prison failed to detect the money sent to Leonard by a supporter and now blames Leonard for being in possession of the 20£ note. Also please note the placement of the wires in the cell as described by the guard. Leonard does not sleep on the top bunk and while the guard indicates that Leonard currently does not have a cellmate, it is also true that Leonard has had a cellmate in that particular cell from time to time.

The BOP’s disciplinary procedures do not allow for legal representation for an accused prisoner. A prisoner is tried, convicted, and sentenced without due process. Prison authorities claim that thorough, professional investigations are conducted in such instances, but the cards are stacked against a prisoner when a guard is involved because the statement of a guard is always given more weight. Further, the culture inside is one of collective or group punishment. Every prisoner, that is, is deemed responsible for the actions of another prisoner.

Friends and supporters, in the spirit of the promise of justice for all, we must liberate Leonard Peltier. Call the BOP to protest the prison’s actions against Peltier. Please send e-mails, write letters and call BOP every single day. Solitary confinement is torture. Tell the BOP that the world is watching and we’re horrified by its inhumane treatment of prisoners, in general, and Leonard Peltier, in particular. Make reference to Leonard Peltier #89637-132 and contact: Dr. Thomas Kane, Acting Director,Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP), Email: info@bop.gov, 202-307-3250 or 202-307-3198, Fax: 202-514-6620

Communicate the same message to the director for the BOP’s Northeast Region, Joe Norwood. Again, reference Leonard Peltier #89637-132, a prisoner at USP-Lewisburg. Northeast Regional Office, Federal Bureau of Prisons, 2nd & Chesnut Streets, 7th Floor, Philadelphia, PA 19106, Phone: 215-521-7301, E-mail: NERO/EXECASSISTANT@BOP.GOV

Letters to Leonard Peltier

Send Leonard a personal letter of support at the address below. Please visit the website, http://www.whoisleonardpeltier.info, to see the regulations on what can/cannot be sent to Leonard:
