Today between major rainstorms, we had beautiful weather in Williamsport, PA and several ceremonies were held to honor the Sacred Fire of Thunder coming to America. The circles grew throughout the day and encouraged everyone to see how support and participation in the walk grew in one day in one city! Just think how big the circle will get in 13 months and 48 cities and reservations.
The day started off at Freedom Road, an important site in the history of the underground railroad. The walkers traveled from there to the Peace Tower in town. We gathered around the tower and stood in silence for 15 minutes. The Mayor of Williamsport, Dr. Gabriel Campana, joined the group during the silent meditation and then several people shared their views on the walk, including Daishin who shared a story and the wisdom “the not knowing is the most intimate”. Tony Anderson shared her wisdom, “there is one prayer with many voices.” And Sandi Smith shared her wisdom, “you are walking hearts.”
Later in the afternoon, we gathered with children from the community. And the circle grew, and grew, and grew as we invited kids riding by on bicycles (they stopped!) and mothers walking down the street with their children. The children offered to share some thoughts on peace, and one little boy said, “peace is the UNITED states of america…that’s it.”
Next, we walked downtown to the Inspiration Mural painted by Michael Pilato right in the heart of the city. More wisdom was shared by many. And Reverend Dai-En Brennage blessed the sacred walking staff. It was an amazing day of peace, inspiration, and unitedness.
